
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Artificial Intelligence is transforming our world, but are we fully prepared for the risks it brings?
This In-person, 2-hour intensive workshop in Halifax was designed specifically for Black professionals and other underrepresented groups in tech to deepen understanding of AI systems, their potential risks, and how we can shape a safer future together.
We broke down how AI systems learn, make decisions, and act, and then dove into the points where things can go wrong. From bias and data harms to questions of accountability and human control, this workshop equipped it's participants with the insights and tools to navigate AI’s ethical, social, and safety challenges.
WHAT PARTICIPANTS LEARNED
✅ How AI systems are trained, evaluated, and deployed
✅ Common failure points and real-world examples of AI gone wrong
✅ Key risks such as algorithmic bias, automation harms, and alignment issues
✅ Emerging tools, frameworks, and strategies for responsible AI development

Our Mission
Our mission is to lower the barrier for the underrepresented communities and promote an inclusive generation equipped to lead in addressing emerging AI risks.
We do so by:

1.
Building a strong, inclusive community of students and professionals focused on addressing risks associated with emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence.

2.
Acting as a catalyst, we support early and mid-career researchers by providing resources and mentorship to pursue impactful research in AI Safety, AI Governance, and AI Policy.

3.
Through mentorship and advocacy, we aim to enable meaningful participation from underrepresented populations to foster a diverse generation of leaders who will shape the future of AI responsibly and ethically.

4.
Growing a talent infrastructure for inclusive AI by establishing institutional connections to drive substantial progress on key AI Safety, Policy and Governance challenges.
